Continuing Education

The more you know, the more you can help.

As the insurance agent or adjuster, you're often the first contact for a policyholder who has experienced a disaster. You are in a unique position to put your policyholder at ease and to help minimize damage. The more you know about the disaster mitigation process and recovery, the more you can guide your client in taking the right steps to control damage – and therefore control costs.

Learn the ropes with continuing education.

ServiceMaster Clean® is an approved Continuing Education (CE) provider in 45 states. We've developed a curriculum that emphasizes the cost-saving benefits of quick response and correct action in five critical areas. With the escalating cost of insurance, increasing demands for quality customer service and the challenges of maintaining profitability, it is necessary for the insurance industry to partner with Mitigation Specialists to provide high levels of service while reducing claim severities through specialized services.

ServiceMaster Clean’s Continuing Education objectives are to provide property and casualty insurance professionals with an increased understanding of the process and benefits of Mitigation to overall property loss restoration. We place an emphasis on the cost-saving benefits of quick response and correct action in a loss situation along with enhanced customer service to provide peace of mind to the policyholder as a result. The course instruction format is a combination of instructor presentation, short video segments, relevant handouts, and hands-on exercises that require student participation.

The following is a brief overview of the courses offered by ServiceMaster Clean:

Course Descriptions

Water Damage Mitigation illustrates how water damage can occur and its effects on carpet, wood floors, and other building materials. The course will show how quickly secondary damage happens and what steps can be taken to reduce or minimize the damage. The course demonstrates the best water removal processes and equipment used for various building materials. The course will explain the principles of drying and dehumidification, discuss mold growth and the use of antimicrobials, and address odor control issues. (3 CE hours) Agent Course # 45358, Adjuster Course # 47511

Smoke and Odor Damage Mitigation explores the chemistry of fire and the effects of smoke on various structural building components and household contents. In addition to smoke, chemical vapors and acid gases produced by the fire cause damage to contents if left untreated for even a short time. This course will identify the items in a property that are at risk and how emergency corrosion mitigation can prevent or minimize further damage. Also, odor mitigation methods such as ozone and air cleaning are explained in this course. (3 CE hours) Agent # 46564, Adjuster Course # 47513

Mold Remediation introduces the science of mold and explores its potentially harmful effects on building materials and occupants. This class will show how mold grows, how it spreads, and what actions should be taken to remove mold in a safe, effective, and reasonable manner. We will also address procedures such as containment, negative air, and the proper use of personal protective equipment in removing mold. (3 CE hours) Agent Course # 45366, Adjuster Course # 47514

Mitigating Personal Property Packout Claims NEW!
This course will demonstrate how technology is enabling the restoration professional to manage and track packout inventory, movement and restoration better than ever before, while giving the homeowner or business manager a sense of security about the process. The course will cover the new tools and technology of evaluating, restoring and tracking inventory from start to finish. (3 CE hours) Agent Course #66225, Adjuster Course # 66792

Restorative Structural Drying In recent years water damage restoration has rapidly evolved into a profession with an expanding sphere of science that must be studied and applied if the goals of customer service, reduced severities and quick claims closure are to be accomplished. This science is known as psychrometry and it provides the foundation for a new approach to water damage restoration called Restorative Structural Drying.

Restorative Structural Drying is a strategy for drying building materials that promotes decision making based on verifiable scientific data. This data is obtained and evaluated through psychrometry, which is the relationship between air, humidity, and temperature, and their combined effect on various structural and flooring materials. Restoration professionals use psychrometry, along with sophisticated moisture detection and monitoring instruments, to determine the moisture content of wet materials, measure the amount of moisture in the air, monitor the drying process and verify that the structure is dry at the completion of the job. This hands-on seminar for insurance professionals presents the latest information, equipment, procedures, and recommended certifications needed for water extraction and drying out of structures affected by water intrusion. Topics covered will include effects of water saturation on various structural materials, evaluation of water losses, industry standards for drying, measurement and documentation, restoration processes, equipment and technology, modern drying paradigms and an overview of the science of drying (psychrometry) and explores the restore vs. replace decision. (6 CE hours) Agent Course # 52184, Adjuster Course # 52185

Ethics "Ethics- If you don't live it you don’t believe it" This program is practical look at ethical decision-making. Instead of relying on "gut feel", the process contained in this program takes the decision-maker through several filters which ensure that all parties affected by the decision will be considered. (3 CE hours) Agent Course #66225, Adjuster Course # 66792

*This class is NOT Senior Suitability Ethics required by the state of Florida for Agents who hold more than one license.
